In the ancient Maya language, the word Guatemala means “tree country.” In fact, once Guatemala was a real green paradise, with endless frills that had become the home of thousands of plants and animals and a fundamental resource for the population.
Unfortunately, deforestation and problems caused by the conformation of the land have damaged the forests, creating poverty, ecological damage, and high social disparity. To date, a million hectares of forest has been deforested and needs help, and we, together with our partners, are determined to bring the forests of Guatemala back to their ancient glory!
The area chosen for the project is the region of Huehuetenango and the Pacific South Coast, where, working with the local authorities, we will plant different species of plants, to ensure a long-term investment (trees for timber), and short-term chocolate for sale), which will be managed by the local population after a specialization course on eco-sustainable agriculture. People will learn how to plant, grow and manage forest products, enhance them as local products and create an ecological business to allow all people to get out of the poverty zone.
To get the most from the project, our partners have the right to choose which tree species to plant according to the season, with a focus on cocoa and hardwood plants.
Project supporters will receive a certificate and daily updates. A single tree will change the lives of many people. Do the right thing, and give them the opportunity to live a better life.
